Candice (Dorfold Hall’s wedding coordinator) offers you her top tips for wedding planning
BTW: a wedding venue coordinator is the person that turns your plans into reality! Someone who once you have carefully selected your suppliers, will ensure that there is a timeline established for the day, and that suppliers know where to be and when; leaving you to enjoy your wedding day! .
Congratulations, you’re engaged and soon this could be you…Beneath our 1000 year old tree!
You have gotten engaged, sipped on champagne and felt so fabulously happy you felt like your heart would burst. But what happens next, once you have told all your family and friends (and clamoured on all forms of social media)?
We have put together a few pointers to hopefully help you navigate, and truly savour, this wonderful time in your life. .
Well, if he is the one for you he will have known to either offer you a ring on his proposal OR, (as in my case) realise the choice will be made together… Either way, once you have that precious ring on your finger (and possibly even before)… I would strongly advise to insure it. Of course it is completely irreplaceable, but never the less it offers a little piece of mind. .
It is not only a good idea for your engagement ring, but for your wedding plans.
After all getting married can prove to be a considerable investment… worth protecting!
Nowadays there is plenty of technological help out there in the form of Apps, websites, Excel spreadsheets (my favourite!) and online calendars to help you plan and create a timeline for key wedding-related decisions. And if this still seems like altogether too much then perhaps a wedding planner might be the right thing for you. www.fabuloustogether.co.uk and www.heleneriksen.co.uk
Avoid falling into the trap of rushing into planning mode straight away. Whether you are planning a 12 week or a 12 month engagement, relax, take time out together, just the two of you, and bask in the ‘just engaged’ glow.
Read some magazines or blogs, start a scrap book or get an account on Pinterest, so you can start collating together things that appeal to you. Sometimes finding what you love is as valuable as what you dislike in helping you discover what you want to take away from your wedding day. Speak to friends and family who can share their experience. Visit wedding fairs will give you a great opportunity to start talking to wedding professionals and may prompt new ideas that you hadn’t even thought of.
Once you have a better idea of your vision answers will emerge to help you start focusing on make this vision a reality. So what is important to you:
Is it the location? The number of guests? The time of the year? The dress? The look?
Once you have an idea of whom you want to invite and you have started getting inspiration for your big day you will need to address the financial aspect of the day. Who will be paying? And how much? There are so many suppliers and elements to consider, which can build up to more than you would expect or intend.
So after ascertaining what is important to you, drawn up a guest list, allocated a budget and thought of a season month or date…You are finally ready to find your VENUE.
When I started working in the world of weddings I was staggered at how quickly certain dates get booked up sometimes years in advance. Two pieces of advice: choose your venue as soon as possible, and follow your heart! I would best describe choosing the place you will celebrate one of the most memorable events in your life as akin to falling in love… with a flat or a house. It has to speak to you and entrance you, capture your imagination and make you tingle inside. And not just the place, the people who work there have to be welcoming and devoted to you.
Once this key element has fallen into place, there is plenty more to think about but often these will start falling into place. Things to consider:
o Food and wine
o Dresses, suits, shoes, jewellery
o Cake – salty or sweet?
o Lighting – never underestimate lighting
o Honeymoon – Escape
Some venues offer packages with everything incorporated or included. Here at Dorfold Hall we believe in a more tailored approach. Whilst we ask that you choose from one of our outstanding caterers Click Here and use Escapade Bars (Visit Them Here) you are invited to choose all your other suppliers. We can however also provide an enviable list which I refer to The Little Gems of Dorfold – containing the names of some mesmerizingly amazing people who make it their business to help create the magic of weddings. All in all, this allows you to be individual and creative; to choose all the key elements to implement your vision of the your day.
Like most things in life and relationship be ready to sometimes compromise (a little!) with your partner, with family with some of your expectations.
Keep talking to all parties and ask lots of questions. Sometimes giving a little will mean getting more in the end.
Finding your perfect venue needs to come high on the priority list, once you have the date secured and the venue booked, the rest of the planning falls into place.
